Virna Lisi
An Italian Cinema Legend: Talent, Elegance, and Heart

Early Life and First Steps in Cinema

Virna Lisi, born Virna Pieralisi on November 8, 1936, in Ancona, grew up in a modest but value-rich family. From an early age, she showed innate charm and a passion for acting that led her to attend theater courses. Her beauty and naturalness quickly made her known, and at just 17, she was noticed by producer Antonio Ferrigno who gave her her first film contract.
Post-war Italy was experiencing a cultural rebirth, and Virna, with her disarming smile and grace, embodied the dream of a new Italian femininity, far from stereotypes and ready to conquer the big screen.
Film Career: Between Italy and Hollywood

From the 1950s to the 1970s, Virna Lisi established herself as one of the most versatile and beloved Italian actresses. She appeared in over 70 films, playing roles ranging from melodramas to comedies, thrillers, and auteur cinema. Her career took an international turn when she signed a contract with Paramount Pictures, starring in several Hollywood films where she proved not only her beauty but also a solid and recognized talent.
Despite her overseas success, Virna remained deeply connected to Italian cinema, often working with prominent directors such as Marco Bellocchio and Liliana Cavani. Her role in Beyond Good and Evil earned her prestigious awards like the David di Donatello and the Nastro d’Argento, establishing her as an icon of cinematic culture.
Private Life: Love and Family

In 1960, Virna Lisi married architect Franco Pesci, building a lasting and solid relationship, away from the spotlight but full of affection and mutual respect. Their marriage brought a son, Corrado, whom Virna always considered her greatest joy and source of strength.
Despite fame and success, Virna managed to keep a balance between her public and private life, often choosing to withdraw from the scene to dedicate herself to family, especially in the last years before her death in 2014.
The Virna Lisi Foundation and Award

The Virna Lisi Foundation was established to honor the actress’s legacy and promote Italian culture and cinema, with a special focus on the value and talent of women in the entertainment world.
Each year the foundation organizes the Virna Lisi Award, an event that celebrates Italian actresses distinguished by skill, passion, and commitment. The award represents not only artistic recognition but also a tribute to Virna and her values of elegance, professionalism, and humanity.
The award often takes place in collaboration with important organizations such as SIAE and the Turin Film Festival, creating a bridge between the past and present of Italian cinema.
