The icon of Italian cinema was celebrated with a special evening at the Rome Opera House, during which actresses, directors, and artists were honored. The story of the evening told through the words of her son Corrado Pesci.
“I was lucky to have a mother who, while deeply loving her work, always put family first. She showed, by example, that a woman can be simultaneously a caring mother, an affectionate wife, a sincere friend, a loving grandmother, and an extraordinary professional. I still get emotional today when established actors and actresses tell me how she was a source of inspiration for them. This is the most beautiful sign of her impact, not only as an artist but as a human being.” Corrado Pesci remembers his mother Virna Lisi. Ten years after her passing, the great artist was honored with a special evening at the Rome Opera House.
During the evening, the Virna Lisi Award 2024 was presented — “thanks to the fundamental support of SIAE and its President Salvatore Nastasi,” Pesci continued, “to the Superintendent Gianmarco Giambrone, and with the help of our dear friend Jean Paul Troili.” The Award “was given to the extraordinary Cristina Comencini, not only a director but also an author, writer, and screenwriter, and to the great Giuliano Sangiorgi, awarded for his exceptional contribution to music. The Virna Lisi Award for Best Actress went to the talented Miriam Leone, while the Young Revelation Award was assigned to the rising star Celeste Dalla Porta.”
And again, Corrado Pesci added: “We also celebrated the breakthrough film of the year, Il ragazzo dai pantaloni rosa, a box office hit that is moving all of Italy. Finally, we had the honor of awarding the great soprano Eleonora Buratti, who received the Virna Lisi Special Award at the Opera House. This is our commitment: to always stand on the side of talent.”
